Nandamuri Kalyan Ram who has Atanokkade to his credit has been due for a hit since very long time. Out of desperation he has made Om in 3D format for which he has invested more than Rs. 25 crore. Did he get the desired result?

What is it about?

Arjun (Kalyan Ram) is very fond of his dad (Karthik), who has many enemies. Arjun's dad's enemies plots to kill him and Arjun safeguards him all the time. But Arjun doesn't know that he is being used as a puppet against his own people. When he comes to know about the truth he loses his people and he avenges their death. How does he gets his revenge forms rest of the story.

Performances :

Kalyan Ram did a fine job as the main lead. Although there is a bit of hamming at times, he pulls off his role on a whole. He tonsured his head for this role and that is a sign of dedication. Very few actors can take such risks. Kriti Karbhanda got an effective role and she is okay on the performance front. Looks wise she has easily dominated other female lead Nikesha Patel, who did a decent job as an actress. Veteran actor Karthik goes over board at times. Rao Ramesh is okay with his Srikakulam accent. Suresh, Sampath and others played the supporting roles.

Technicalities :

Dialogues are not up to the mark. Most of the punch lines are just rehash from old movie dialogues. There are not many songs in the film. Background score is good. Cinematography is to notch. Framing and shot division stands out. 3D effects are very nice in few action scenes. Holi song is too good in 3D. Producer has to be lauded for making a quality film. However, director has let him down with lackluster script. Screenplay is pretty bad and director failed to excel on the script side. He has good command over technical aspects, but didn't get his basics right to make it a perfect film.

Analysis :

Om is a regular revenge action drama with loads of fights. There are many twists thrown in to make it an interesting film. But the screenplay is very poor that it hardly draws the attention of audience. Scenes and dialogues are badly written and things only get worse as the story moves ahead. First half of the film is pointless and never goes ahead as there is nothing happening on screen.

Director relied heavily on the twists that comes in the latter half of the film and didn't make an attempt to make things interesting until that point. The main twist works up to some extent, but by then audience get exhausted with lethargic screenplay. There is absolutely nothing on entertainment front. There is neither thrill nor comedy for the viewers to get along.

Despite keeping the film to less than two hours, Om fails to keep the audience interested at any point. Climax is a big letdown and Karthik's performance made it even worse. Om has good technical values and few laudable 3D effects. Other than that this film is a total let down and one has to feel sorry for Kalyan Ram who has given his heart to this film. Director has to be blamed for such a badly made movie.

Verdict :  Om - A huge disappointment
