As reported earlier, Vijayawada-Guntur to be the new capital for the successor state of Andhra Pradesh. Chandra Babu Naidu-led AP government is keen on developing a capital between Guntur and Vijayawada.

AP Capital Commitee, headed by Municipal Administration & Urban Development Minister P. Narayana, conveyed the same to Sivaramakrishnan Committee appointed by Centre. Mr Narayana along with the state government’s representative in Delhi Kambhampati Ram Mohan Rao met Mr Sivaramakrishnan and other members on Tuesday in New Delhi and held deliberations for two hours. It is learnt that Mr Narayana has presented a strong case for the capital to be set up between Vijayawada and Guntur and spread it over Krishna and Guntur districts.

Since Vijayawada has three canals running through and Krishna river flowing by its side, there will not be shortage of water supply in future, this is said to be one top reason by AP government to vouch for Vijayawada-Guntur. Preparations are on to develop Vijayawada into a logistic hub. AP government is planning to locate a good seaport near proposed capital city. A unit of oil refinery, a pharma unit and a crackers factory are likely to be setup in Machilipatnam which is just 80 Km away from Vijayawada. Sivaramakrishnan Committee has considered all its options and is going to present its final report soon. We hear that Vijayawada-Guntur as capital for AP is almost finalized and only an official announcement is awaited.
