Touted to be the first ever Comedy film to be made in 3D (in India), Action 3D, did caught some curious eyeballs. With Allari Naresh as the leading man, one would expect a decent comedy besides the 3D format. Did Anil Sunkara deliver goods with this film?
What is it about?
Sadly No! This film is about four friends (Allari Naresh, Vaibhav, Shyam, Raju Sundaram) who are out on a road trip to Goa for a bachelor party. Things go haywire as they go berserk on one night. One of the friends (Shyam) goes missing and now the remaining three had to find him.
Performances :
Allari Naresh is fine as the lead. He did well within his limitations. Shyam is alright. Vaibhav is competent. He is good at expressions. Raju Sundaram fared well with his comic one liners. Sneha Ullal has nothing much to do. Neelam scores on the glamour department. Sunil and Sudeep has given friendly appearances and they are okay. Brahmanandam is wasted. MS Narayana's repeat act from Dookudu is good.
Technicalities :
3D effects are not up to the mark. Maybe good for a local made film. Cinematpgraphy is plain ordinary. Editing is mediocre. The film needs to be trimmed by an hour. Music is not at all impressive. None of the songs are worth listening again. Production values are okay. Direction is not good to cut things short. The director had no clue about what to do with that huge star cast. Although it is a comedy film, it hardly evokes fun and that is the major setback for this film. Anil Sunkara needs to get his basics right if he is planning to direct more films.
Analysis :
This film is a poor copy of blockbuster Hollywood comedy 'The Hangover'. Entire second half of Action 3D is based on The Hangover. Director balatantly copied each and every scene from that film and tried to give few native touches to it. Despite having a successful source material the director failed to make it an interesting film. First half of the film is a real pain.
Real story begins only at the interval point and the director had to pass the time in the first half with boring comedy scenes and spoofs. Kathi Restaurant scenes and Gorilla scene are of poor taste. Even kids wont laugh at those. The film drags on and on even in the second half. Poor audience should only wait for the titles to roll over by wearing those 3D glasses on.
Making a 3D film in comedy genre is a nice idea, but did it work? The answer is plain No. Why because 3D only enhances the beauty of films which have great visuals and special effects. Films like these doesn't really need to be made in 3D. Director should have opted for an action or horror film instead. So much Money gone wasted on this.
Verdict : Action 3D - Third degree torture!
