Newly sworn-in Telangana home minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy bore the brunt of parents of missing students who are washed away in Beas river in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh on Sunday evening. The parents and relatives of missing students gheraoed the Home Minister on Monday morning at Shamshabad International Airport. Parents alleged that Minister and government was negligent in sending details of missing students to Himachal Pradesh government on time that resulted in delay of rescue operations.
Minister pacified the parents and assured the students all sort of help and promised that he would send the details of missing students to HP government through fax. He also said that efforts are being made to bring back the remaining students as early as possible. Nayani has now headed to Himachal Pradesh to oversee the rescue operations.
Earlier on Sunday night, AP CM and TDP Chief Chandra Babu Naidu spoke to Himachal Pradesh CM and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and briefed the situation and seeked the help from State, Central government in the issue. Chandra Babu pointed out that there was neither a siren nor an alert before lifting the gates of dams that resulted in the tragedy. Nearly 24 students of second year Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering of VNR Vignan Jyothi Engineering College, Bachupalli, Hyderabad are reportedly washed away in the stream.
