Union Government denied Special Category Status for residuary Andhra Pradesh and this is against the assurance of AP Reorganisation Bill. Instead, Centre is keen on offering Industrial incentives and Tax Exemption for Andhra Pradesh.
BJP Sources confirm, There will be no declaration of according Special Status to AP during the presentation of Union Budget 2015-16.
The most worrying trend is that Union Government isn't keen on according Special Status to any state in future. Even the norms set up based on economic survey to accord Special Status remained unchanged and this development ruins all the hopes of AP.
After its inception in 1969, Special Category Status was accorded to 3 States namely Assam, Nagaland and Jammu-Kashmir. Later, About 8 States (Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mijoram, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarahand) were included.
