
Former ICC chief Jagmohan Dalmiya has been elected as the president of Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) for the second time. Dalmiya, the current president of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), is going to take charge as the new BCCI President in place of N Srinivasan after a decade. Dalmiya was the sole nominee for the post of President and was elected unanimoulsy in the board’s annual general meeting in Chennai today.
Jharkhand Cricket Association’s Amitabha Chodhary was elected the Joint Secretary beating Goa’s Chetan Desai, belonging to the anti-Srinivasan faction, while Haryana’s Anirudh Choudhary won the treasurer’s position by defeating Rajiv Shukla.
CK Khanna became the Vice president. It is second term of Jagmohan Dalmiya as President of BCCI, earlier he had served from 2001–2004. He was also ICC president for three years from 1997 to 2000.
Srinivasan was barred from standing for president by the Supreme Court, following its probe into a betting and fixing scandal surrounding the Indian Premier League (IPL). The apex court ruled on 22 January that Srinivasan’s ownership of Chennai Super Kings created a conflict of interest that rendered him ineligible. Srinivasan is the current International Cricket Council (ICC) chief.
The 74-year-old, who hails from Kolkata, is credited with helping to turn the game into a lucrative global sport. He twice brought the World Cup to the Indian sub-continent, in 1987 and 1996.
